okok. will give it a shot... (copious intake of breath...) it goes something like this.
In the book of Ephesians , Paul tells us how to be a Christian, how to relate to the world through our relationship with Christ, how to “live in the LIGHT” (5:8-14) whilst in the midst of darkness.
He urges us to put on the NEW NATURE (4:20-24), to apply wisdom and care to our lives (5:15-17), and to put on the whole armour of God (6:10-17).
And although there is an abundance of practical specifics, detailing the appropriate behaviours for husbands and wives, children and parents, employees/employers, about dealing with anger, bitterness, lying, slander, etc etc, the main message to the church is not what to DO.
It is, in essence, what (and how) to BE.
Be Renewed in our minds, Be Mature in our faith, Be United as the One Body of Christ, the building built on Christ as the cornerstone.
Be in the world but separate, set apart for His use, Holy, and living to the praise of His glory.
We the dudes at BEEPmusic feel called to serve the body of Christ through the infusion of creative energy in worship and music and in so doing, want to hold fast to Paul’s "
BE" message to the
EPhesians.
BE-EP beep!
okok so its not einstein! but it does have a certain in-your-face-ness which carries the faintest whiff of anti-estab.
appropriate, considering what we're doing.
beep-on!

ok...
too many people have been asking me, "what does beep mean? is it an acronym for something else?"
all i can say to that is, Josh explains it better than me...
so ask him! it's an answer worth waiting for...
meanwhile, i've been listening to the songs that beep has been receiving.. and i've been so blessed by some of these songs. i could not help but wonder about the situations or the circumstances from which these songs were born... what was happening in the songwriter's life when he/she crafted them... what was he/she thinking about? what was he/she rejoicing about? what was he/she struggling with? how did he/she come to that revelation?
i realize that we do not give that God-inspired tune/lyric enough justice sometimes just by arranging/recording/producing it. i realize that 'amazing grace' took on a different dimension when i read about john newton's life and how God shaped him, i understood faith a little better when i read about horatio spafford and the circumstances he was in when he penned 'it is well with my soul', fanny crosby's life story opened my eyes to the 'blessed assurance' we have in Christ.. even the past week spent with the audacious band helped me understand the stories, the context and the culture from which songs like 'bounce' and 'set my feet' came out of, and for all that i'm left amazed at this awesome God we serve...
this revelation has affirmed our initial plan for a regular podcast that the beep team was planning, where we can showcase some of these local songs, interview the songwriters, find out a bit more about their lives, their inspiration, have a little fun, muck around a bit and just give a shout out to the community that is beep...
what do you guys think? something you'd tune in to??

I had a thought today (I do have other thoughts, but I think this one’s worth blogging about!).
I introduced a friend in the office (I don’t like the word “colleague”. It just seems so impersonal… So if I referred to someone as a “colleague”, you’d know how I feel about that person! Haha…) to the beepmusic website today and told her to listen to the locally written and produced songs.
Her reaction surprised me… She downloaded and listened to “Beautiful World”, liked it so much that she put it on repeat (for the whole morning maybe?) and is considering using the song for her wedding! She wants to blog about “Beautiful World” and let all her friends know about it! How cool is that? SOMEBODY likes the song! Woohoo! And because SOMEBODY will tell SOMEONE ELSE, OTHERS will know about it…
And here’s my thought: For all the effort, time, blood, sweat and tears that went into producing “Beautiful World”, it is not the song that will make an impact. Songs don’t create the impact, people do! Songs don’t change the world (pardon the cliché), people do! People who contemplate on what was sung, or act on what they’ve heard, or propagate the values they’ve imbibed create that impact… They ignite the spark. That’s why James tells us to be ‘doers, not just hearers’ of the Word. It’s not enough just to understand what it means to be the ‘salt and light of the world’… We have to BE the salt and light of the world. And because SOMEBODY is the salt and light of the world, SOMEONE ELSE will be impacted, in turn OTHERS will be impacted too, resulting in MANY coming to know about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lastly, Fulham vs Man U (2-0), Spurs vs Chelsea (1-0), Liverpool vs Villa (5-0)… It’s a beautiful world.

it was an extremely tiring 2 weeks for me. firstly, willie and i had to really rush to get the final mix of
the generation band's worship album (lovesong) out to the printers' a week before loudfest. i also had to finish the tracking, editing & mixing of a couple of the songs so that Josh could master it before we put it up on
beepmusic.com.sg for download.
but long story short, it was tiring (12 hrs sleep a week), it was stressful (now i've got pimples coming out of my scalp!), it was tumultous (with emotions on the brink of flaring up as we had to make changes to the website, the designs, the music video wall, the mixes, the details we will release to the masses etc. etc.) but it was ALL WORTH IT!!
in just 2 weeks,
generation band's worship album is launched and selling well,
beepmusic.com.sg is up and running, we are getting a steady stream of people signing up for beep's newsletter, we've got song submissions coming in, loudfest was an amazing success with more than 40 churches represented and over 800 people responding to various challenges and altar calls and liverpool beating real madrid 4-0, man utd 4-1 and aston villa 5-0. it's impossible to see God's hand in all these.
i'm really charged up for what God is gonna do to the spiritual climate of our nation and region as we cross denominational, cultural & generational barriers and openly share our God-inspired worship songs for His glory.
and i hope you are too.

oh wait, forgot i need to finish the mix for Beautiful World before that (...) oh well, can sleep when they wheel me into the hospital for exhaustion.
